Stanley Glenn Cook arrived into this world on July 23,1946 at Gholson, TX as the youngest of eight children born to Phillip Alton Cook and Ruby Lee Prince. The son of sharecroppers, he grew up without much money but a great deal of love. The hardships made for a humble, hardworking, and devoted man that did much good in the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. He is survived by his wife, Pam and his sons Stanley, Jr. of Lake Worth, Texas, and Ronald Cook (Ana) of Cleburne, Texas. His bonus children, Keith Mackie (Amanda) of Norman Oklahoma and Rhonda Maudlin (Charles) of Placitas, New Mexico. His sister Patricia Miller (Jack) of Jacksonville, Florida, brother Mickey Cook (Loretta) of Waco, Texas, brother Leslie (Kay) of Axtell, Texas, SIL Anna Cook of Crawford, TX. Also, his beloved seven grands, four great grands, numerous nieces and nephews.
Stan was a 1964 graduate of Richfield High School in Waco, Texas where he played basketball. He joined the Army in 1966. In 1967 he married the woman who would become the mother of his children, Sara DeWitt. They would later divorce.
In October of 1980, he was introduced to his future wife, Pamela Lyda Mackie. They were married on March 14,1981, at the Martin UMC in Bedford, TX. It was the beginning of a 44-year-long love story with each believing that the other was an answer to their prayers.
A man of deep faith, one of Stan’s favorite sayings was “I would rather see a sermon than hear one any day.” He was a tireless volunteer in the church, going with Central Texas Youth in Mission each summer for 15 years. His nicknames of “Mr. Fixit” or “Stan the Handyman " came as he helped with projects at church, work and community. One of his many recognitions included a “Gold Hammer” Award from Habitat for Humanity and Annual Church Conference mission award 1998.
He owned his own handyman business while becoming a student again. Stan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from University of Texas Arlington in 1993. Stan continued working as a handyman and soon went to work manager of fleet and facilities for Texas New Mexico Power. He was described by a fellow employee as a person that was and had a genuine concern for the workplace. He was respected by many.
At retirement in 2013 his kids gifted Stan “a little white dog, Teddy. Much later a cat named Angel would be adopted. Stan was a man who was deeply loved and was well deserving of words of appreciation for his selflessness. Stan also planned wonderful vacations all over the US, Canada, Jamaica, and Costa Rica.
In 2021, they returned to Pam’s childhood state of Oklahoma. The move to Norman brought them closer to Pam’s family and they joined Goodrich UMC Jan1,2022. Throughout their many years of marriage, they embraced new experiences through travel, and milestone parties with friends. Despite being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes upon his separation from the army in 1969. Stan kept a positive attitude, cheerful out-look and smile.
Stan was a brother, husband, father, grandpa, dear friend, and a fine human. He will be greatly missed. The Celebration of his Life will be April 26, 2025, 11 AM, at Goodrich Memorial UMC 200 W Hays St. Norman Ok. Please let Pam know if you can stay for a catered lunch too.
