Sandra
Tucker
Oct 30, 1939 — Jun 5, 2026
Sandra (Sandy) Tucker, of Norman, Oklahoma, after an extended period of declining health, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 5, 2026, in Norman. Sandra was born on October 30, 1939, in Poteau, Oklahoma, to W.B. (Bill) and Welma Tucker. She was a graduate of Norman High School, class of 1957, and a lifetime University of Oklahoma football fan. She worked as a PBX operator at the Hertz Corporation for over 20 years, although her children never understood how someone who successfully operated a complex corporate telephone networking system for so long could not perform simple tasks on a smartphone. She was a charter member of her church, NorthHaven Church, in Norman, Oklahoma, and family and church were the two great passions in her life.
She did have several hobbies that gave her pleasure. The first was shopping, both in person and, when her health declined, on television shopping channels and online. There are rumors of injuries possibly committed long ago at Black Friday sales in Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City, but the family denies any liability. The second was using her electronic devices, mostly for playing games, using social media, breaking usability settings, and changing forgotten passwords, hence the remark about PBX operation above. Her third pastime was giving unneeded advice to her grandchildren about their own families. Although this advice was unwarranted and wisely unheeded, they will certainly miss hearing it. Her fourth hobby was exercising her great talent for fussing with all those who would put up with it and loving to get it in return.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Welma Tucker, a brother, Bill (Pistol) Tucker, and a grandson, Brandon Thompson. She is survived by another brother, Jerry Tucker, of Tecumseh; and by her children, Gary Thompson and wife, Teresa, of Purcell, Craig Thompson and wife, Carol, of Oklahoma City, and Sheri Ridenour and husband, Randy, of Norman. She leaves a legacy of six beloved grandchildren and ten cherished great-grandchildren. There will certainly never be another quite like her, and she will be missed by all.
