Roxanne “Roxy” Engel, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 10, 2023 while asleep with her pups by her side. Roxanne was born June 14, 1962 to Billy Joe Everett and Johnnie Mae Lucas in Edmond, OK. Roxanne grew up in the country riding horses and raising goats, cows, pigs, and chickens. She would tell stories of riding her horse Dutchess to her best friend Kathleen’s house and riding trails together. She participated in “Play Day” youth rodeo with her sister Cathy and her brothers Randy and Rick. As she got older Roxanne found her niche in barrel racing. After graduating from Edmond Memorial, Roxanne and her friend Susan went on a trip to Vero Beach, FL, where they almost hit an Alligator crossing the highway. Roxanne went on to work for Reserve National for many years, where she played second base for the company co-ed softball team. In 1986 Roxanne’s coworker Mark Engel brought his brother Matt to a game. The two hit it off right away and were engaged within a year, having their first son, Matthew Paul Jr soon after. Roxanne and Matt went on to have a second son, William Joseph, in 1994. After her boys were born Roxanne took on an even more difficult job as a Stay-At-Home Mom. Roxanne doted on her sons and always volunteered with the PTA throughout elementary and middle school. Whether it was baseball, football, or disc golf, Roxanne was always there to support her boys. After her children were grown up, Roxanne went back into the workforce in 2010 via a job at JD McCarty Center. Roxanne cherished her time at the JD McCarty Center calling it her “second home” and her coworkers a “second family”.
Roxanne was preceded in death by her husband Matt Engel, Mother Johnnie, Father Billy Joe, and other aunts, uncles, and friends. She is survived by her sons Matthew Engel Jr and William “Billy” Joseph Engel, brother Randy Everett and wife Linda, brother Rick Everett and wife Rebecca, sister Cathy Corr and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, family, and friends.
