Robert "Rick" Lee Rountree Iii

March 11, 1937 — August 4, 2021

Robert Lee “Rick” Rountree III was born March 11, 1937 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Robert Lee Rountree II and Frances Jean (Pierce). He passed away in Norman, OK on August 4, 2021 and made Heaven his permanent home.
He was enlisted in the Army Reserve in July of 1961 and was proud to serve his country. Rick was a proud graduate of OU earning both a bachelors and a master’s degree in Geology. He then began his lifetime career starting out as a staff Geologist with Amoco and later became a partner in Dynamic Exploration. He was a part of the Norman community and Mcfarlin Methodist Church for over 31 years.
Rick was an aircraft pilot, enjoyed sailing, golfing, reading, and putting jigsaw puzzles together. He also loved OU athletics and it didn’t matter which athletic activity, football, basketball, baseball, softball, men or women, if it was OU sanctioned, Rick supported it. On broadcasts of OU sports, you could almost always see him sitting on the court or in the stands and if you couldn’t see him, you could hear him leading the “Boomer Sooner” chant. He was an active member of the OU Sooner Club, the OU Alumni Assoc and was also one of the founders responsible for development of the Sarkeys Energy Center at OU.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Richard Brant Rountree, son, John Bradley Rountree and stepson, Ricky Rountree.
