Michael Edward “Mike” Jones, retired Sergeant with the Oklahoma City Police Department, passed at the age of 58 on May 25, 2018. He was born in Abilene, Texas to James “Jim” Jones and Betty Jean Brannon on March 23, 1960.
Mike loved being outdoors, taking any opportunity to hunt. Being a true sportsman, he wasn’t very picky about what he hunted, whether it be deer, hogs, birds, turkeys, or ducks. He also was an avid fisherman, and still had his oldest daughter’s very first fishing pole. Mike really enjoyed watching sports, including, of course, OU football, but his true passion was for basketball. Having played himself in high school for the Symsonia Rough Riders in Kentucky, he was a huge fan of the Celtics, the Bulls (particularly Michael Jordan), and the University of Kentucky.
Mike was a real jack of all trades. He could fix most anything, and if he couldn’t, he would fake it till he made it. Mike was an excellent cook, and his specialties were biscuits, gravy, brisket, and steak. He was an honest man with a very direct and straightforward personality; you always knew where you stood with Mike! He was a real jokester, and his wheezing laugh was widely recognized by his family and friends. Mike had a huge heart, and he would always lend a hand to those in need.
Mike is survived by: daughter Whitney Chaichankanchang and husband Norm of Norman; daughter Kelsey Schroader and husband Andrew of Murray, Kentucky; brother Kenneth Jones and wife Susan of Nevada, Iowa; grandchildren Sophia and Jaydan Chaichankanchang; and close family friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Brannon, and his brother, Glenn Jones.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made care of the funeral home to the family to help with funeral expenses or to the charity of your choice.
