Julie McCall was born at Norman Municipal Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma to O.T. and Virginia McCall on November 29, 1952. She passed away on October 13, 2024. Her family was long time residents of Norman and very involved within the community and First Baptist Church of Norman. Julie was baptized into membership on March 26, 1961. Julie shared her birth date with her four year older sister, Gail, and when asked by her parents what to name the new born baby replied, Julie. The McCalls enjoyed a close knit and loving family life including travels to Acapulco Mexico, Europe, California, and Virginia. She was athletic and helped sister, Gail, master gymnastic requirements of cheerleading and was a talented snow skier joining friends and her family on many ski trips.
Julie was fun loving and always caring of others. As a cheerleader at Norman High School she accumulated many friends. She followed her sister to attend the University of Oklahoma where she joined the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. At OU she made many life-long friends while she accomplished a degree in Special Education. She enjoyed college activities including as a little sister of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Later, she obtained her Master degree in Special Education. Julie taught Special Education and subsequently served in administration in the Mid-Del school system and for a time taught in the Grove, Oklahoma area. For years Julie served Thanksgiving lunch at Food for Friends then hurried to the family celebration. Julie always preferred to give to and serve others before addressing herself.
Julie had one child, Bevin Edwards of West Palm Beach, Florida and five grandchildren: Tabia, Tanisha, Malachi, Steven, and Hudson. She, along with assistance of special friends, Brenda Bishop and Andrea Berkley, raised two granddaughters in her home. She had numerous friends and a lifelong close relationship with her sister, Gail and brother-in- law Dennis Schwabe. Other survivors include nephew Grant Schwabe, wife Alicia, son Ollie and daughter Scout of Tulsa, nephew Chase of Norman, and niece Summer and husband Jordan and their daughter, Abigail and sons Charlie and Turner of Ormond Beach Florida. Also, cousin Kenny McCall and family of Norman.
Julie was predeceased by her grandparents, parents, premature twin sisters, and relatives of her mother’s family in Virginia.
Always a positive and joyful person, Julie often wanted to tell you something funny and she was known for always ending a phone conversation with I love you. If you hung up with out telling her the same she would immediately call back.
The family wishes to thank the endless number of Julie’s friends for loving her as we did. Especially, we are thankful for friends Brenda Bishop and Andrea Berkley and appreciative of the care given Julie by the medical staff of the Norman Healthplex.
