Juanita Faye Gill, 83, passed away on January 26, 2023 in Norman, OK.
Juanita was born September 21, 1939 to Josephine and Aubrey Baker in Hobart, OK. She grew up in Gotebo loving sports, playing both basketball and softball, but was not in favor of all the cotton picking. Juanita enjoyed her small school and graduating class of 10.
Upon graduation, Juanita went to business school and lived at the YWCA. There, she met two future sisters-in-law. Juanita introduced Jan to her brother Jerry, while Naomi set the wheels in motion with Duane…literally. The first date for Duane and Juanita was at the roller rink.
Duane Gill married Juanita on April 14, 1961, whisking her into the life of a military wife. Together, they lived in five states and two countries, making friends country-wide and welcoming three daughters into the fold. Caring and attentive, Juanita spent many hours supporting all her girls in their many activities.
Affectionately known as Aunt “Tomato”, “Tater” or “Neeter”, Juanita immensely enjoyed her large extended family and numerous friends. She loved Bethel Baptist Church, her Vota Vita class, making a joyful noise for the Lord, University of Oklahoma sports, potlucks, camping at the lake, family reunions, War Eagle girls’ trips, Skip Bo, Dominoes, Spades, Hearts, and Canasta. Juanita loved to laugh and when she wasn’t doing that with friends and family, she would cackle along with The Golden Girls and Friends. Juanita also found tremendous joy in her granddaughters. She was often found playing on the floor with them or spoiling the girls with Cheeto puffs for breakfast.
Juanita is survived by her three daughters, Kelly Gill of Norman, OK, Sandra Carpenter of Coppell, TX, Karen Booze of Allen, TX; son-in-law, Chuck Booze; four granddaughters, Kendall, Mykayla, Addysen, Trinity; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jan Baker; sister-in-law, Naomi Snowden; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
