Joseph Robert “Joe Bob” Weaver, age 89, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on July 7, 2025.
Born on November 6, 1935, in Rayville, Louisiana, he was the beloved son of Ellis and Marie Weaver.
Joe Bob earned his Ph.D in Mathematics Education at the University of Oklahoma, launching a lifelong dedication to teaching and academic leadership.
He honorably served in the Army National Guard, exhibiting unwavering commitment to both country and community.
After teaching in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, Joe Bob relocated with his young family to Norman, Oklahoma, where he was employed in a variety of distinguished roles at the University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Later at Oklahoma Baptist University, he was Dean of Arts and Sciences and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
An active member of Mu Alpha Theta, the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Who’s Who in American Educators, Joe Bob also volunteered with Kiwanis as President and coordinated the local Terrific Kids program.
In addition, he held a vital civic role as an election official for Cleveland County, overseeing polling operations and ensuring fair, transparent elections.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Joe Bob served First Baptist Church in Norman for decades as a beloved Sunday School teacher, long-standing deacon, and chair of numerous committees. His dedication shaped generations, guiding countless believers in faith and fellowship.
On August 18, 1958, in Eunice, Louisiana, Joe Bob married Neva Gayle Lowe. For 66 years, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Joe Bob is survived by his loving wife, Neva; sons Bob (Susan), Dick, and Scott (Kimberly); sisters Ellis Marie and Mary Elizabeth; granddaughters Ellisa Hoyt (Andrew), Aleks Kitchens (Patrick), Shaleigh, and Caitriona; great granddaughters Harper and Hallie Hoyt; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
