Frances Lavonia Fowler

December 25, 1930 — May 31, 2025

Norman

Frances Lavonia Fowler, known lovingly as “Mamaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, surrounded by family at OU Medical Center.

The youngest of five children, Fran was born in Purcell, Oklahoma in 1930, a Christmas day baby. She went on to marry her husband, Robert Fowler, March 26, 1950, and they remained happily married for over 66 years. While raising their daughter Ann, she worked as the bookkeeper for his business, R.L. Fowler Co. At the age of fifty, she returned to school at the University of Oklahoma and earned a degree in psychology – an achievement of which she was deeply proud. She later went on to work at the Federal Aviation Administration.

Fran absolutely cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren – they were her pride, her joy, and the light of her life. She spoke of them daily, beaming with love and delight at their lives and accomplishments. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, especially outdoors, watching her grandkids swim, play sports, and simply enjoy being with them.

Her sweet nature and ever-present smile made her a beloved presence at Arbor House in Norman, where both residents and staff adored her. The family is especially grateful to the team at Arbor House for their kind and compassionate care, as well as to Hannah Harp, who lovingly supported Fran in her later years.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Fowler. She is survived by her daughter, Ann, and her husband Kent Faison of Norman; her grandchildren: Cullin Faison and his wife Shannon of Oklahoma City, and their children Lydia Toney, Maddie, and Ellis; Carter Faison and his husband Russell Vannoy of Austin, Texas; and Clay Faison and his wife Brittany of Avon, Colorado, and their daughters Fiona and Birdie; Nieces Gene Latta, and her husband Leonard; Patty Anderson; Nephew Vernon Pierce, and his wife Linda, as well as a host of additional nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to First Christian Church in Norman, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Norman.
