Maurice Glen Pool passed away October 13, 2016, in Norman, OK. He was born February 7, 1921, in Marietta, Oklahoma, to Grady Reuben and Lallie Dee Sloan Pool. Moving to Ardmore, Oklahoma, as a child, he was graduated from Ardmore High School in 1940. He was married to Ella Christine Robinson on August 16, 1946. They had one child, Glenna Dianne Huddleston.
He served a short time in the U. S. Army just before the beginning of WWII. Glen attended Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating with the class of 1953. He did graduate work at the University of Oklahoma, earning the M. A. and Ph.D. degrees. An ordained Baptist minister, Glen served several small churches as pastor during his educational studies.
Dr. Pool worked at OU in Continuing Education, resigning in 1968 to serve as pastor of First Baptist Church, Idabel, OK. During this time he served on the Board of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist University Board of Trustees. Family health problems resulted in his returning to OU, where he retired in 1984 as Director of Advanced Programs. He was a member of Sons of the American Revolution and the National Rifle Association, as well as one of the last four members of the coffee group which began meeting in the early 1970s at Dee’s on Campus Corner.
Following the death of his first wife January 4, 1989, he married Sarah Myers Osborn in 1990. Also preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Edith Pool, his brother Charles Wayne
Pool, and son Samuel Osborn.
Surviving him are his wife Sarah Pool; his daughter and her husband, Glenna and Michael Huddleston; son Tristan Osborn; brother and his wife, Garland and LaWasson Pool; three grandsons, Michael, Clifford, and Paul Huddleston; and several great grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 17 at First Baptist Church, Norman, with graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, Oklahoma, 2:30 p.m.
