Charlene Louise Fears, 81, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025 in Norman. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 22, 1944.
Charlene spent her formative years in Atlanta, Georgia, where her love of learning and unending curiosity first took root. A gifted, creative and devoted scholar, she attended art school and later earned her MBA. With her husband, Rufus Fears, Charlene lived overseas, joining him on archaeological digs and exploring historical sites connected to his research—adventures that deepened her appreciation for culture, history, and the wider world.
In 1990, Charlene and Rufus made their home in Norman, Oklahoma, where they raised a family and wove themselves into the life of the community. Charlene brought light and warmth to those around her—volunteering in local schools, supporting the Boy Scouts, and welcoming students, neighbors, and friends into her home for countless gatherings. Her generosity, steady encouragement, and gift for hospitality will be remembered by many.
Charlene is survived by her daughter, Betsy Fears, 34; and by her brother-in-law Thomas Ganka (wife Joanne) of Atlanta, GA, and his three sons Charlie (wife Tamara), Geordan (wife Sarah), and T.J. (wife Victoria).
She was preceded in death by her son Jesse Fears; her husband Rufus Fears; her sister Elaine Ganka; her brother George Bauer; her mother Alma Krepps; and her father Charles Bauer.
