Obituary

Bobby Keith McGrew, 83, of Norman passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born August 6, 1942, near Shidler, OK. Bob married Alice in 1986, and they were blessed with 40 happy years together.

Bob served two tours in Vietnam, then returned to Oklahoma to embark on a career in banking. Bob worked at First Interstate Bank in Oklahoma City, Norman Bank of Commerce, and First State Bank in Noble and Wanette, where he was known for his dedication to customers. After he retired, Bob performed real estate and business valuations for Mid-States Corporation in Omaha, NE. Bob took on management of the family farm alongside Collins Miller.

During retirement, they loved to travel. Bob and Alice served several month-long stints as volunteer lighthouse keepers at Battery Point Lighthouse in California, where Bob was a standout giving the “tower talk.” There were many cruises, and trips to China, India, Europe and Vietnam, as well as an annual family driving vacation for Bob’s birthday to places like Door County, Wisconsin, and the civil war battlefields at Gettysburg, Antietam and Harpers Ferry. Bob and his brother John McGrew regularly visited relatives across Oklahoma and Texas and returned often to their hometown.

At home, Bob followed OU sports and Thunder basketball. Bob was a master at whittling and carving. He created art that he loved to share and which was widely admired. Bob maintained friendships from every era of his life. Till the end, he enjoyed regular weekly meals with friends and family, especially his grandchildren Chloe and Audra, Rivers and Eli, and friends Richard Hill, Terry Rush, Doug Hickson, Bill Bynum, Bill Mercer, brother-in-law Sam Nott and his longtime friend and colleague John Burks.

Bob treated everyone with respect and made a lasting impact on his family and community.

Bob is survived by his wife Alice McGrew; daughters Cyndi Byars (William), Shanna Simmons, and Lesley Noble (Josh); grandchildren Chloe, Audra, Rivers, Eleanor and Eli; brother and sister John and Mary Kay; and many other family members.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will take place at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman at 2pm on March 16, 2026.
