Vivian Faye Anderson

June 5, 1917 — March 11, 2019

Vivian Faye (Mills) Anderson of Norman was born on June 5, 1917 to David Elmer and Bessie Mae (Kinder) Mills in Nash, Oklahoma. She passed at the age of 101 on March 11, 2019 with her family by her side.

Vivian graduated from Enid Business College in 1936, earning her Associate’s degree in accounting. She began what would become an 81-year career as an Accountant working for the Government Agriculture Department in Medford where she had made her home. On March 20, 1943 Vivian married the love of her life, Fred Anderson, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They owned Anderson Chevrolet in Medford for 30 years, during which time Vivian did the bookkeeping. Eventually she went to work for Keith Clingman, CPA. In 1993 Vivian and Fred moved to Norman to be near family, at which time Vivian went to work at Copelin’s, where she worked until her retirement.

Vivian was a proud member of the Medford branches of PEO and Eastern Star for over 50 years, and she was a member of the Ex Libris book club of Norman. She greatly enjoyed her Friday game nights playing Pitch, 5 Crowns, Rummikub, or any game with her special friends. Vivian was an avid OU Women’s Basketball fan, and she enjoyed playing a friendly game of golf. She loved to read, crochet, and play puzzle games such as Sudoku and Crypto-Quote.

Vivian was a devout Christian and was very active within her church communities, first at the First Christian Church in Medford, and later at the First Baptist Church in Norman. Family was everything to Vivian, and she made it a point to be very active in the lives of her children. Vivian and Fred enjoyed 52 years of marriage before Fred’s passing in 1995, and though she mourned his loss she found great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Victor Mills. She is survived by her son Don Anderson and his wife Vickie of Edmond, her daughter Lin Copelin and her husband Ed of Norman; her sister Virginia Shawley Spencer, 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Contributions in Vivian’s name may be made to the First Christian Church of Medford (123 W. Pawnee St, Medford, 73759, 580.395.2046) or the First Baptist Church of Norman (211 W. Comanche, Norman, 73069, 405.321.1753, www.fbcnorman.org/give)

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 30th at the First Baptist Church of Norman.
