Scott Schroeder Morris

November 19, 1941 — September 7, 2021

Scott Schroeder Morris, 79, went to be with His Lord and Savior on Sept. 7, 2021. Scott was born in Manilla, Philippines, on Nov. 19, 1941, to Cmdr. George and Katharine Morris.

After Scott’s birth, he, his sister, Mary Ann and his mother were taken prisoner by the Japanese and placed in the Santo Tomas prison camp in Manilla during World War II until late Spring of 1945. Meanwhile his father was held prisoner at Corregidor. He met his father for the first time when he was 4 years old after they all returned to the United States after the war. Scott and his family lived in Liberia, Africa, and Tampa and St. Petersburg, FL, where his father was stationed for work. Scott graduated from Admiral Farragut High School in St. Petersburg, FL, where he was the top marksman on the shooting team. He then earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University.

He fell in love with and married Janice Sue Lippard in 1964. Scott worked for NASA, General Electric, and Honeywell Bull. Scott and Janice had one daughter, Lori, who was the love of their life. Scott later earned an MSM from Southern Nazarene University and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma, earning a 4.0 in both. He taught at SNU, MACU, Redlands and OCCC.

Scott was a member of the Ex-POWs of Central Oklahoma for 4 decades and served as Commander of the chapter for 10 years. It was an honor for him to serve what he considered the unsung heroes of our country. Scott was also a member of Sons of the American Revolution and The National Huguenot Society.

Scott, lovingly known as “Grand Paw,” was a devoted father and grandfather who attended numerous recitals, track meets, basketball and soccer games and activities. He loved his family and was passionate about their education. He was generous and spent his final years crocheting thousands of hats for people in need.

Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, who passed away in 1981, and his parents, George Edward Jr. and Katharine Elizabeth Morris. He is survived by his daughter Lori Abernethy and her husband John; his grandson, Chris and his wife Chanae, his two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Anna, all from Norman, Oklahoma; his sister Mary Ann Newlon of St. Petersburg, Florida, and his sister-in-law Judy Holcomb and her husband Mark of Levelland, Texas, along with 8 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the Fellowship Assistance Fund at Wildwood Community Church in Norman, Oklahoma. A graveside service will be held at 10 am Monday, Sept. 13, at a private family portion of Sunnylane Cemetery in Del City. Please enter off of Sunnylane Rd.
