Nauweeta L. (Berglan) Bledsoe

January 3, 1940 — July 15, 2016

Nauweeta L. Berglan Bledsoe, 76, left this life to meet her Savior face to face on Friday, July 15, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma surrounded by her family. She was born to Ernest and Millie (Corley) Berglan on January 3, 1940 – the youngest of three children.

Nauweeta accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl and lived faithfully for Him. She moved to Norman with her family when she was 13 and became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she remained an active member until her death. She graduated from Norman High School in 1958 and went to work for Griffin Memorial Hospital in the business office beginning what became a career in finance in the mental health field. She met and married Roy Virgil Bledsoe on September 1, 1961. They set an example of commitment and love for almost 55 years for those who were privileged to know them. Together they had two daughters, Vicki Lynne born in 1962 and Cheryl Renee born in 1965. Nauweeta retired on July 31, 1997 as the finance officer at the Cleveland County Community Mental Health Center. She was proud of her service.

Nauweeta loved her role as mother and gave it her all but nothing exceeded the role of “Grandma”. She was never happier than when she was loving on and spoiling each one – Stephen born in 1984, Chelsea in 1990, Chase in 1993 and Chad in 2000. The only thing that might have surpassed her love for her grandchildren was her anticipation of the arrival of her first great granddaughter, Ellie Rae, who will arrive on Tuesday, July 19th, if not before.

Nauweeta and Virgil enjoyed traveling. They visited Branson more times than anyone can count, went to Hawaii twice – once with the OU women’s basketball team and once for their 50th anniversary, took an Alaskan cruise and traveled with Cheryl and her family to locations from Phoenix to the east coast. She never stopped talking about her next trip to Branson.

Nauweeta will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a lover of family, a tremendous manager of her resources and home, she was a fastidious housekeeper and kept things in order while holding down a full time job and serving in her girl’s schools and attending their activities – from PTA president to sponsoring many choir trips as well as serving at church.

Nauweeta was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother in law Willie and George Atkerson and her brother Troy Berglan.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Virgil of the home, two daughters Vicki Walden of Moore and Cheryl (and Chris) Kuwitzky of Norman; four grandchildren Stephen Walden of Bartlesville, Chelsea (and Michael) Bowlan of Norman, Chase Kuwitzky of Norman, and Chad Kuwitzky of Norman and the much awaited great granddaughter, Ellie Rae Bowlan of Norman; as well as many close friends and extended famliy.

The family would like to thank the staff at Arbor House and Oklahoma Hospice Care for the tender compassionate care they provided.
