Laverne I. Coponiti

July 31, 1939 — September 23, 2020

LaVerne I. Coponiti was born on July 31, 1939 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Ivan S. and Imogene J. (Henderson) Elder. She passed from this life, peacefully at home, in Norman, OK., September 23, 2020.
LaVerne spent her early years in Paramount, California where she was living when she met Mike Coponiti. They were married April 8, 1960 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. In 1971 they moved to Amber, OK., where they made a home and raised their children. LaVerne was a founding member of SonRise Baptist Church in Chickasha, OK. She was a woman who centered her love on God, family and friends. She and Mike moved to Silver Elm Estate, a senior living complex in Norman, OK., in 2013 and became members of Bethel Baptist Church.
LaVerne was dedicated to church activities, a class mom at Amber-Pocasset schools and supported the extra-curricular school activities of her children. Affectionately known as “Mama C” to the friends, classmates of her children and church youth. Laverne was well known and loved for her cooking skills, providing meals for family holidays, church camp, potlucks, school events, fundraisers and whoever showed up at her house for dinnertime. Her specialties were her pies, authentic Italian food, and delicious Mexican family dishes. She was a talented decorator, loved crafting and shopping. She had a personal sense of style and loved dressing in colorful, matching outfits that was not complete without the matching footwear. She delighted in creating activities with her grandchildren such as art projects, playing dress up and shopping with them for trendy clothes. Her generous heart and bright, beautiful smile will be missed forever.
*A special thanks to Lifeline Home Health, Valir Hospice, and Silver Elm Estates for their comfort care and services to enhance her life and ease her passing.*
