Joan Ellen Morehead

June 27, 1950 — February 19, 2022

Joan Ellen Morehead passed away peacefully on February 19, 2022 in Noble, Oklahoma after struggling with several lengthy illnesses. Joan was born on June 27, 1950 to Henry Andrew and Margaret Elizabeth (Stoddard) Morehead in Norman, Oklahoma.
Joan graduated from Norman High School in 1968. She thoroughly enjoyed class reunions throughout the years. Attending nearly every planned function, she always looked forward to catching up with her classmates. Following graduation from high school, Joan returned to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She then began her 42-year tenure in the maternity ward at Norman Municipal Hospital, now Norman Regional Health Systems. She actually began at NMH as a Candy Striper while in high school. As an LPN, Joan formed many lifelong relationships, where she had the respect, admiration, and affection of coworkers, doctors, and patients.
One of Joan’s most treasured experiences was founding the Norman PRIDE (Parents Responding to Infant Death Experience) Group. Joan truly followed the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. She would urge, “Be there for them – friends and strangers!”.
A lifelong member of the Baptist Church, Joan was a faithful and active member of Bethel Baptist Church of Norman until her health failed. She participated in many of the church’s ministries including the Women’s Ministry, BLOOM Ministry, and Senior Adult Ministry. Joan’s faith in God was strong and never wavered, regardless of her circumstances.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Linda Morehead. She is survived by her brother James Morehead of Bethany, her sister Joyce Burkett, three nieces, Lori (Brandon Smith) Morehead of New Mexico, Sunday (Stephen) Cummins of California, and Dawn (Jamie) Torres of Oklahoma City, nephew Dow Murray and three great nieces Tana Morehead, Linda Smith, and Anna Cummins.

In keeping with Joan’s love of America and Americana, she requested that people wear something red, white, and blue to the service.
