Howard "Bud" Bredthauer

August 12, 1943 — November 25, 2017

Howard Gilbert “Bud” Bredthauer of Willis, TX was born in Houston to Gilbert Adolf and Lillian (Harrison) Bredthauer on August 12, 1943. He passed at the age of 74 on November 25, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family.

Bud grew up in Georgetown, TX and graduated from Georgetown High School in 1961. He went on to attend Sam Houston State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Bud proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Army, where he flew helicopters, earning a Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts. On March 2, 1968 Bud married the love of his life, Troy Bransom, in Houston. They made their home in Friendswood, TX with their two daughters, Hollis and Amanda. Bud joined the family business, W.B. Bransom & Co, in 1970, and managed the business until his retirement in 2008.

Bud loved being outdoors. He never missed an opportunity to go boating on Lake Conroe or to hunt quail and doves. He enjoyed skiing, whether it was on the mountains in Colorado, or on the water at the lake. Bud and Troy took immense pleasure in traveling, and were very proud to have driven with their great friends to all 49 of the continental United States, including Alaska. He also enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and all over the Caribbean with his family and friends. Bud was an avid golfer, and he made it a point to hit the links on every trip. His favorite courses were Bentwater and Golf Crest in the Houston area, and he was a member of the “Hole-In-One Club” at Buffalo Creek in Dallas, Texas.

Bud had a generous spirit. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer as well. He will be remembered for his jolliness, infectious laugh, bright blue eyes, and friendship. He was like a 2nd dad to many of his daughters’ friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Gail Bredthauer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Troy Bredthauer; his daughter, Hollis Langdoc and her children William and Lucy of Dallas; his daughter, Amanda Achord and her husband Chad, and their children Dylan and Carly of Norman; and a host of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bud on February 10th from 4-6pm at Bentwater Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MDAnderson.
