Harry Von Worten was born October 4, 1932 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Jesse James Worten and Lena Grace (Cook) Worten.

Von was an all-state football player for the Pawhuska Huskies and earned a football scholarship to The University of Oklahoma. While in college he enrolled in ROTC, was active in the Baptist Student Union, and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Upon graduation from OU he received his commission and served with the army in Germany. Upon completing his military service he attended Southwestern Seminary where he received a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Religious Education.

Von married Marjorie “Marge” Ann (Jones) on November 26, 1959 in Phoenix, Arizona. After pastoring for five years in West Texas, they moved to Indonesia in 1965 as missionaries with the International Mission Board. They lived in Indonesia for 24 years, then served an additional 10 years as itinerate missionaries in South and Southeast Asia.

After retirement, Von and Marge moved back to Oklahoma where he was very active in First Baptist Church Norman. He taught Sunday School, was involved with Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief, and worked with the Union Builders. Von lived in Norman for 23 years.

Von was outgoing, adventurous, and loved playing sports. He was also mentor to many, a servant of all, a man of integrity, a man passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus, and a man of great faith.
