Garland Riddle

February 6, 1943 — September 29, 2017

Garland Riddle of Norman was born on February 6, 1943 to Calvin Houston and Audrey Estelle (Johnson) Riddle in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He passed at the age of 74 on September 29, 2017.

Garland was a true man of faith. He was a longtime member of Harvest Church in Norman, serving in many capacities, including serving as an usher, singing in the choir, and driving the church bus. One of his favorite things to do was to work in the Angel Food Ministry at the church. Prior to joining Harvest Church, Garland was an active member at Southside Trinity Holiness Church, where he also sang in the choir, ushered, and drove the church bus. If there was something that needed to be done, Garland was there to do it.

Garland loved being outside. He could frequently be found working in his yard or tending his flowers and was very proud of his lawn. Garland was also an avid bird watcher and feeder and loved to travel, especially to Colorado.

Garland always put his family first. He enjoyed reading to his children, and later to his grandchildren. When he wasn’t reading to his grandchildren he would be playing horseshoes with them or helping them to catch turtles. He was a devoted husband, constantly bringing teddy bears and flowers to his wife of almost 26 years, Clebbie. The littlest member of Garland’s family was his chihuahua, Tiny.

Garland was preceded in death by his first wife of 26 years, Patricia I. (Rex) Riddle, his parents, and his sister, Bernice Stone. He is survived by: wife Clebbie M. (Treat) Riddle of the home; daughters Tammy Stanford and husband Larry of Edmond, OK and Wendy Haycox and husband David of Pauls Valley, OK; sister Carlene Riddle McCalip of McComb, OK; grandchildren Charlotte Lippe and Shane Stanford and Patricia, Christopher, and David Haycox; his beloved great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
