Dr. Newton A. Averion

September 23, 1931 — March 10, 2017

In the year of 1931, September 23 was a very special day; as in a small town of Alaminos Laguna, Philippines, Newton Avenido Averion entered this world. Born the oldest son of the late Jose and Aurea Averion, Tony, as friends and family called him, aspired for greatness.
A graduate from the University of Santo Tomas Medical School in 1958, Tony completed his internship at Overlook Hospital and residency in General Practice at Clara Maas Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. From there, he returned to the Philippines to marry the love of his life, Lettie, with whom they had 3 children. He was a physician at the Associated Medical Specialist in Makiti.
In the year of 1971, Tony and family came to the U.S. seeking new adventures in West Virginia, Virginia, and McAlester, OK before settling in Pauls Valley, OK. After retiring in 2001 as a physician at Southern Oklahoma Resource Center, Tony and Lettie relocated to Norman. An active member of the Philippine Medical Association Organization, he became the President during the year of 2000. He was a member of the Norman Cross Timbers Rotary Club and the International Medical Association. He was also a devoted member of Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
During his spare time, Tony’s passions included fishing, bowling, traveling, and chess (which he passed his teachings on to his grandchildren). But his greatest passion of all was spending cherished times with his family and friends.
He departed from this world to join our Lord on March 10, 2017 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his sister, Flordeliza Montecello and grandson, Angelo Martin Averion. He is survived by his beautiful bride of 55 years, Lettie; wonderful father to daughter, Alea Hashimoto; son, Ariel Averion; daughter, Auresa Averion; son-in-law, Richard Hashimoto, daughter-in-law, Karen Averion; dear grandfather to Alexander Hashimoto, Andre’ Averion, and Alysha Averion. He is also survived by his 3 siblings (Zenida Averion, Orlando Averion, and Imelda Yap), sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-niece, and grand-nephews.
