Doug Crews

Douglas (Doug) Merle Crews from Norman, Oklahoma, passed into eternity with Christ on July 25, 2020.
He was born on July 14, 1961, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK, the youngest of two children. Upon his arrival, he had two blood transfusions and there were concerns that he would be a weakling, but obviously God had other plans. He grew up in South Oklahoma City/Norman and graduated from Norman High School in 1979. In high school, he managed the team at the Moore Norman Technology Center carpentry job site and received the Golden Hammer Award. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University Tech and graduated with an associate degree in Engineering Technology.
He soon met his love for life, Cecilia. He desired his wife to have a home to reflect a household of faith, therefore he devoted many days of work to remodel their first little house before they were married. It has been said that when Doug dated Cecilia, he was also dating her father Bob. Bob and he developed a relationship that would be a cherished friendship for life. Doug and Cecilia married in June 1983. Through the providence of God, Doug and Cecilia adopted Dillon in 1992 and Matt in 2003. Doug devoted Saturdays solely to time with the boys, starting with breakfast together with Papa Bob. After breakfast, the boys went off to work on the rental properties where Papa Bob and Doug were training them about God’s work ethic in mowing and rental property care. Special times included family times and nights called “pizza, movie and a picnic,” along with Branson outings, fishing with the boys/Papa Jerry, eating out after a long day of work, building things with the boys, shooting at the gun range and even golfing at times. When Doug noticed needs in the lives of Matt, Dillon and Cecilia, he was quick to find solutions that would benefit them. Doug prayed daily for his sons and was proud beyond measure of both boys. He spent his last days fixing things and finishing projects in order for Cecilia and the boys to have all they needed.
Some of the projects he enjoyed managing the most were the Aikman Endzone at the Children’s Hospital, the Fireman’s Memorial in front of the Oklahoma Firefighters Museum, and the new Children’s Hospital/MOB, just to name a few. He worked in construction over 40 years starting alongside his father at Crews Construction prior to marriage. Later he worked at Virgil Greene, Sherriff Manufacturing, Winslow, FKW, Flincto, 5 Star Steel and HGL Construction. His main responsibilities in work were project manager/estimator.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord in March 1982. He was a member at Trinity Baptist where he used his gift of singing in a quartet. Later, while members at First Baptist, Norman, he and Cecilia served in the Promise Land children’s ministry, where he played many roles, such as Professor Von Doogle or a Mission Impossible detective while sharing the Gospel. While at FBC Norman, he was ordained as a deacon where he served diligently as a young married man who always had a truck and trailer at his disposal. Their “Storm-before-kids” Sunday school class often shared in warmhearted fellowships and special trips. They also had the opportunity to serve at Journey Church with the youth and led regular Sunday small groups around the dinner table at the Sturgell’s. When they became members of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Doug continued to use his gifts in song and craftmanship to minister to others. He continued to serve as a deacon and contributed to several committees, including building, maintenance, and long-term planning. They served in the Huff Sunday school class where he participated in teaching the class several times. He served on several mission trips that included Voice of the Martyr, Globe, Arizona, Colorado Springs, New Orleans, Homes of Hope, Mississippi, and the “Back to school Bash”. He even attained his CDL driving license needed in order to be one of the drivers for the trips. He simply loved to serve!
Doug is survived by his wife, Cecilia (CC) Crews of Norman; their two sons, Dillon Crews and wife, Liza of Norman and grandson, Tyler; Matt Crews of Norman. Also surviving him are his mother and father, Joyce and Jerry Crews of Oklahoma City; his sister, Brenda and husband, Larry Dalton of Del City; nephews, Jared and wife, Melissa of Moore; Justin of Oklahoma City; Joshua and wife, Andrea of Austin, TX; and many cousins and friends.
Doug will be greatly missed! A special thanks to Frontier Hospice for their compassionate care during Doug’s final days. Cecilia, Dillon and Matt could not have made it through these difficult days without the prayers and tangible support provided by their family, friends and church. They wish to convey their warmhearted gratitude to each of you.

There will be a 9am graveside service on August 1st at IOOF Cemetery, 1913 N. Porter Ave., Norman, OK, 73069.
The funeral will be held at 11am on August 1st at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, 304 SW 134th St., OKC 73170.
