Denney J. Benson

Denney J. Benson was born February 12, 1944 to JP Benson & Bivian Olivie (Denney) Benson in Duncan, OK. He passed away September 16, 2021, in Norman, OK.

At the age of 20, Denney married the love of his life, Brenda Sue Cooper on August 29, 1964, in Duncan, OK. He received his Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma in 1967. They began their family with two boys, Jay, born in 1971 and Darren born in 1974. His career as a CPA led him to a position with Holden Energy Corporation in 1983 where he worked for 18 years before retiring.

Denney loved traveling with Brenda to see and spend time with family wherever they were living at the time. He enjoyed watching Oklahoma Sooner football with family and friends. Denney was a proud season ticket holder for 55 years and he had the opportunity to attend both the Rose and Orange Bowl. Denney had a big heart for serving others, for example, he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for ten years, rang the bell for The Salvation Army and served food to the homeless community during the holidays. He also enjoyed serving on various committees at Bethel Baptist Church. Denney absolutely loved spending time with his grandchildren whether it was playing games or watching them in all their activities. His family will miss his kind heart and loving spirit.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Benson of the home; two sons, Jay Benson and his wife, Angela of Chesterfield, MO and Darren Benson and his wife, Kristy of Norman, OK; sister, Linda (Benson) Whitley and her husband, Wallace of Sugar Land, TX; five grandchildren, Mitchell Benson of Fayetteville, AR, Madison Benson of Burlington, MA, Taylor Benson of Chesterfield, MO, and Devin Benson and Peyton Benson of Norman, OK.

Denney was preceded in death by his parents, JP Benson & Bivian Olivie (Denney) Benson.
