Charles Wayne Dixon

December 18, 1930 — March 20, 2017

Charles Wayne Dixon of Norman was born on December 18, 1930 in Dill City, Oklahoma to Hurl Charles and Odessa (Bookout) Dixon. He passed at the age of 86 on Monday, March 20, 2017.

Charles grew up in Dill City, graduating from Dill City High School, where he played baseball and basketball. After high school Charles joined the Marines and fought in the Korean War, and after his service he proudly joined the VFW. Charles was a 32nd degree Mason of Lodge 15 in Great Bend, KS. He was also a Noble in the Midian Shrine Temple.

Charles was a “man’s man” who loved working with his hands. He enjoyed all types of fishing and working in his yard. He was an accomplished woodworker, with his preferred tool being the scroll saw. He and his wife loved traveling, driving all over the nation and up into Canada. Though he preferred driving to his destinations, he made an exception to visit Hawaii!

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Verna Mae Smith. He is survived by: wife Shirley Dixon of the home; son Kelly Dixon of Cordell, OK; daughter Leah Jones and husband Nick of Cordell, OK; son Charles Dixon and wife Jennifer of Great Bend, KS; step-son Terry Wadley of Norman, OK; sister Patsy Martin of Amarillo, TX; special nephew Lonnie Lemmon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a niece, nephews, extended family, and friends.
