Carol Stoll Woodham, a teacher for 38 years, died on Monday, December 7, 2020. Her family will hold a private funeral service for her at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel on Wednesday, at 2:00pm where she will be laid to rest.
Carol was born on May 23, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Velma Avery Stoll and John Martin Stoll. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in elementary and middle school, and graduated from Nichol’s High School, both in New Orleans. Carol attended University of New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana University, where she earned bachelor’s, master’s, and educational specialist degrees.
For nearly four decades, Carol was a high school business teacher. She taught computing, marketing, and introductory business courses. She spent the majority of her career at Covington High School in Louisiana, where she managed the local chapter of DECA (Distributive Education Club of America), which seeks to prepare young adults to pursue careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Carol was a beloved teacher at Covington High, known as “Mrs. Woodham,” and had students with whom she remained in contact well past her retirement, a true testament to the impact she made on the development of countless young people.
In addition to being a great teacher and mentor, Carol was a wonderful mother to her daughter, Stephanie, and a devoted wife to her husband, Marc. She adored her family and was especially proud of her daughter, Stephanie, who is a professor at OU, and her grandson, Sam, who she always thought was “so cute”. She had a sharp sense of humor and wit, loved to laugh and joke around with her friends and colleagues, and was a very kind and warm person to all who knew her. Carol was extremely artistic and creative, displayed through her love of cross-stitching, sewing, interior decorating, and in her later years, painting. She also loved to cook and entertain family and friends, was a prolific collector of miniature dolls and figurines, and enjoyed playing Mahjong with her friends and getting together with the “Card Party Girls”. Christmas was Carol’s favorite time of year, and she relished in celebrating this holiday with friends and family, often having as many as half a dozen Christmas parties throughout the season. Though in her later years, Alzheimer’s disease altered her memory, much of Carol’s spirit of joy, laughter, and mirth continued until the end of her life. Those who love her will always remember her this way.
Carol was very close to her own mother, Velma Stoll, and spoke of her very often, even after she passed. It brings her family comfort that they will be reunited in Heaven, through the faith that they shared in our Heavenly Father, and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Stoll and her father, John Martin Stoll. She is survived by her sister, Betty Wright; her husband of 48 years, Marc Woodham; her daughter, Stephanie Woodham Burge; her son-in-law, Greg Burge, and her grandson, Samuel Woodham Burge.
