Billye Sue Miller

January 31, 1930 — June 12, 2020

Billye Sue (Poynor) Miller, age 90, entered the arms of Jesus on June 12, 2020.
She was born January 31, 1930 in Westville, OK to Walter Lee and Ora Ellen Poynor. She had one older brother, Joy Lee Poynor.
Billye grew up in Westville, graduating high school with the honor of Salutatorian, as well as, Homecoming Queen. Her dad owned a grocery and hardware store where she worked as a “soda jerk” in her teen years. She earned an Associate in Arts degree at Northeastern A&M in Miami, OK and then completed her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah. She met her husband, Dow, at school in Tahlequah. They were married on December 16th, 1951 in Westville, and enjoyed 62 years together.
Billye spent less than one year as a new typing teacher in Memphis, TN before giving birth to her first son, David. She and Dow had three more children as he finished dental school. She was widely known for being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that her family grew to depend on and love.
In 1960, the Millers settled in Norman. Billye was super talented in needle point, crochet, crewel, quilting, sewing, tole painting and any other craft that caught her attention. Her sense of humor was always present, along with a smile, a listening ear and good advice. Her children remember her best advice was to be respectful of others and always be secure in “being yourself”. She could dance the Charleston, roller skate, water ski and ride a horse. She was a wonderful cook, gardener, chauffeur, nurse, den mother and a tireless worker. She and Dow were members of McFarlin Methodist Church and cherished their friends in the Fellowship Class.
Billye was an example of unconditional love, patience, kindness, endurance, faithfulness, generosity, support and just simply wonderful. She spent her last years at home in the care of her children, and the help of a beloved gift, Stephanie. Good Shepherd Hospice was also a blessing.
Billye was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her husband, Charles Dow, and her son, David Dow. She is survived by: her son, Doug Miller, her daughters Sue Chilless and Leigh Baldock all of Norman, her niece Susan Mullen and family, her nephew Kirby Miller and family, and her niece Martha Phillips and family, her 8 grandchilden: Jonathan Miller (Rachel) and family of Bartlesville, OK, Jordan Miller and Silva of Katy, TX, Braden Miller, Britton Miller both of Norman, Megan Fleming and Ben, Madison Chilless and Niko Jansen of Dallas, TX, Garret Baldock, Lisa Baldock of Jackson, WY, and her 5 great grandchildren: Isabella; Jackson; Evelynn; Luke; and Kobe.
