Alvin "Bud" Thiessen

September 7, 1923 — August 17, 2017

Alvin “Bud” Thiessen, beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away at home August 17, 2017. Bud was born September 7, 1923 in Hydro, Oklahoma to John B. Thiessen and Marie Thiessen.

During his early years, Bud worked with his Father building houses and farming. Being a family of eight there was always something to do, especially during wheat harvest. Their home was filled with good food and hard work.

On August 29, 1948 Bud married Ruth Audra Blake in Hinton, Oklahoma. Their daughter, Audra was born a year later. Son Danny came along three years later and Tim completed their family five years after that. The family happily settled into life in Hinton.

From 1957-1964 Bud and Ruth owned and operated Thiessen's Drive-N working side by side serving hamburgers, cokes and homemade pies to every teenager in and around Hinton. In 1966 the Thiessen family moved to Norman where Bud and Ruth built homes and trimmed houses for the next 50+ years. Eventually both sons joined the family business building and installing cabinetry in homes with their Dad. Throughout his life Bud’s main trade was always carpentry. He could literally build anything, from just a photo.

Bud was a member of Christ Church of Norman at the time of his death. He and Ruth also attended First Christian Church in Hinton and University Christian Church in Norman, both of which Bud helped to build. He served as an Elder and a Deacon during his life, and was a man who centered his life on God and family. Faith was always his foundation.

Anyone who knew Bud knows he loved all kinds of games. Bridge, Dominos, Rook and Skip-Bo were his favorites. He was an avid reader and loved the works of John Grisham and Louis L’Amour. Bud loved Ruth, his family, woodworking, ice cream, Mexican food and being first to open Christmas presents, in that order. Although his family will always miss him, we all feel so blessed to have been a part of his life.

Survivors include his wife Ruth of the home; sister Ann Arndt, son Danny Thiessen and wife Gloria, son Tim Thiessen and wife Jona, and Daughter Audra Thiessen Overstreet, all of Norman; Grandchildren Bradley Thiessen, and wife Amy, Amber McKinzie and husband Carson, Allie Tsotigh and husband Craig, Michelle Landolt and husband Steve, Ann Dee Overstreet, Sara Ritchie and husband Jonathan, Jessica Farris and husband Will, Madison Thiessen and Chelsea Thiessen; Great-grandchildren Mykala and Hannah McKinzie, Max Tsotigh, Tylor and Morgan Thiessen, Liam Farris, Victoria, Jackson, Owen, Alex and Caroline Ritchie.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Herb and John and Sisters Marie Schmidt and Edith Spear.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. 912 Killiam Hill Rd. SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
